Manchester Metropolitan University Contemporary Film and Video Degree Show 2009

Manchester's Most Wanted

Welcome to the 2009 Degree Show for Contemporary Film & Video at MMU

I would like to congratulate all the students for their success, their professionalism, and their achievements during their three years at the Manchester School of Art. It's not an easy journey. It's a journey, which requires determination, imagination, tenacity and commitment.

The course is located in the School of Art, where our students are encouraged to explore and invent with the medium by balancing the tradition embedded within film making with innovation and risk taking.

The breadth of the course encourages students to adopt a thematic approach - no matter which genre they are working with, and this is demonstrated well through narrative fiction. This year we have continued to develop support for sound design, which is evidenced within all the productions.

The course this year has added a new MA in Filmmaking to it's portfolio, and we hope that this will bring a new and exciting level of study to the subject area.

Over the year, films made by our students have been selected for BFI, BBC Future and Sheffield International Documentary Film Festivals. A first year documentary was selected to represent the North West at the Royal Television Society Awards.

You can see a selection of films made by all our students by visiting the Online Cinema: www.cfv.mmu.ac.uk/olc
