Manchester Metropolitan University Contemporary Film and Video Degree Show 2008

Manchester with a Movie Camera

Welcome Comrades

This year, BA (Hons) Contemporary Film and Video is five years old and its final year students are only the third cohort to graduate. In its short history the course has established itself with national recognition by winning best drama at the Royal Television Society student awards, selected for the prestigious Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival, and represented at a range of film festivals throughout the UK. The course celebrates its' unique position within the Manchester School of Art, where it nurtures an innovative and creative approach to the subject.

This year's graduates have marked their three year journey with an extraordinary passion, commitment and determination to make films which reflect not only their own unique lives, but have also tackled major social themes within our culture. Film making is one of the most challenging of the art forms - which requires an incredible range of skill and engagement. The nature of the practice draws upon a studentís resourcefulness, inventiveness and problem solving ability to negotiate the often hazardous journey from script to screen.

On behalf of all the staff, I would like to congratulate the students for their belief, and contribution to the course, and especially for their outstanding achievements over the past three years. I wish them every success for their exciting careers ahead.
