Welcome

Welcome to the 2007 Degree Show for Contemporary Film & Video at MMU, this year sees the second group of students graduate since the course began in 2003. The course is located in the School of Art, where our students are encouraged to explore and invent with the medium by balancing the tradition embedded within film making with innovation and risk taking.

Films made by our students have been selected by Channel 4, ITV4, Hull International Film Festival, Super Shorts Film Festival to name but a few. The course has seen considerable success during the year with awards from the Royal Television Society and Exposures Film Festival.

As with many film courses the core of the year's work is screen drama, which in 2007 journeys into the genres of science fiction, comedy, and the historical. The emergence of documentary shows a new and exciting strand within the programme, which is most welcome - providing exciting opportunities for students to explore subject driven work. This year we have developed our sound design support to encourage a greater dynamic in all the productions. The breadth of the course encourages students to adopt an experimental approach - no matter which genre they are working with, and this is demonstrated well through the video art work.

I would like to congratulate all the students for their success, their professionalism, and the incredible journeys they have undertaken during their three years at MMU. It's not an easy journey. It's a journey, which requires determination, imagination, tenacity and commitment.

The course depends on team work - and that team extends to the administrative, technical and academic staff who all strive to ensure the student ambition is realised.
